The Primary PE and Sport Premium was launched by the government in April 2013. It is ring-fenced funding to be used by the school to improve the quality and breadth of our PE, sport and physical activity provision.
The national vision is for:
All pupils leaving primary school [to be] physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:
- hire specialist P.E. teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during P.E. lessons
- support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs
- provide resources and training courses in P.E. and sport for teachers
- run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games.
- run sports activities with other schools
