Learning and caring together

Religious Education

Why is RE successful at Handale?

  • Children respect one another and are sensitive to others, especially those with faiths and beliefs different to their own.
  • We have faith focused assemblies delivered by school staff with confidence of content.
  • We hold regular conversations with children with regards to RE being taught identifying knowledge gained, their own opinions and their sensitivity to the opinions of others with regards to religion choice and world view.
  • Well resourced RE lessons are delivered fortnightly with a focus on increasing children’s knowledge and awareness of different religions and worldviews.
  • Thoughts and opinions of the children are considered alongside raising their ability to respond to questions with an RE focus.

At Handale Primary, we aim for…

Children to develop their respect for and sensitivity to others, in particular for those with faiths and beliefs different to their own.

Children to develop a knowledge of Christianity as the main religion within Great Britain whilst also taking into account the teachings and practices of other principal religions and worldviews in Great Britain including Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Humanism.

Pupil’s dialogue to continue to develop with regards to religions and worldviews.

Pupils dialogue to continue to develop when they discuss their personal beliefs, ideas, values and experiences. They should do this clearly and coherently and with confidence ensuring that they are respecting the rights of others who have differing views.

Staff to feel confident when teaching RE.

Children to understand the purpose of RE, why it is taught and when it is being taught.

The profile of RE to be raised within Handale Primary School.
