Good morning Year 2, I hope you had a fantastic day on Friday and a lovely weekend. This week is the final week of the half term and then next week you can enjoy a well deserved rest. You have all worked incredibly hard over the last 5 weeks and I am really proud of you all. I am missing you all loads and I really can’t wait to have you all back in school again.

Our Spelling Stars!

Well done Year 2, you finished 1st on the leader board last week, this is amazing and it is all down to you and your fantastic efforts and attitudes. I have awarded all children who have accessed spelling shed over the last week a spelling badge on Marvellous Me. A huge well done to our top spellers again this week, you really are getting better and better.

Spelling

Because it is Monday, we have a new set of spellings. This week we are going to be learning compound words. Compound words are formed when two or more words are joined together to create a new word. Watch the video below to further your understanding.

playground
lunchbox
sunflower
blueberry
dragonfly
firework
lighthouse
skateboard
snowflake
teaspoon
superstar
wheelchair

Please read your weekly spellings above and clarify them with someone in your house. Do you know the meaning of all of the words? Please remember these are one word even though they are made up of two words.

Please complete look, cover, write and check and then put the spellings into sentences.

English Starter

To begin your work, we are going to be having a handwriting session, I know how much you are enjoying these. I must say I am SO impressed with some of the handwriting I am receiving, I can see you are trying really hard and putting lots of effort into your work. Watch the video below.

English

In English today, you are going to be writing an acrostic poem for ‘FRIENDSHIP’. An acrostic poem is a type of poetry where the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a particular word or phrase. You created some fantastic letters to your friends on Thursday so I thought it would be nice to complete another activity on friendship. Have a look at my video below to help your understanding and then please create your own. I look forward to reading them.

Maths

In your maths meeting today, you are going to be ordering numbers from the smallest number to the biggest number. Look at the numbers below and write them in in the correct order.

13, 56, 83, 19, 25
56, 46, 93, 92, 48
13, 74, 82, 45,93
23, 28, 56, 51, 30
45, 32, 67, 65, 45

100, 76, 134, 85, 19
145, 135, 186, 143, 103

In Maths this week, we are going to be working on Place Value. Watch the video below and I will explain your maths activities for today.

After you have watched the video and completed the activities, see if you can complete the challenge below. See how many ways you can find to make the number sentence correct.

Reading

Complete the comprehension task below. Read it twice and time how long it takes you to read it. Have you improved your time from last week? Is your time quicker the second time you read it? After you have read it, answer the questions.

When you have finished answering the questions, write four questions down that you could ask someone about the text. Remember the answers need to be found in the text.

An example of a question could be: How much does a fully-grown adult polar bear weigh?

Science

This is our final Science lesson on ‘Animals including Humans’. We are going to be learning all about exercise so it fits in with our PE session too.

Watch the video below to further your understanding and then have a go at the activities below. Please just draw a table in your book, you don’t need to print the sheet out. If you would prefer to create an exercise poster instead of completing the two tasks below, I am happy with that too. Use the information on the video to help you.

After you have completed the task above, answer the questions below.

Well done Year 2!

Your work today is complete. Well done for another day of hard work. Please remember to send me in the work you have completed every day so I can tick you off on my register and award you with Marvellous Me badges.

Have a lovely evening,

Mrs Farrier
