Hello Reception,

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. I have had a nice weekend and enjoyed going on lots of walks. This week is our last week before we are back at school and I am very excited. I hope that you are excited too.

Please remember I will do 2 drop-in zoom sessions a day, one at 10.30am and one at 2pm. You can ask any questions you wish to or show me some of your work. I will also read a story on an afternoon so feel free to drop in.

This morning’s job is to practice your numbers. I would like you to make your own number line from 1-20. Then, count forward and backwards to 20. Can you find a number and tell someone in your family what one less than that number would be and what one more than that number would be.

This morning our exercise is Yoga. Enjoy the jungle experience.

Phonics Activity

In phonics recently we have learnt a few new sounds. Today, we are going to recap all of our sounds and practice blending some words together to read and also segmenting some words to write them down. Watch the video and join in with reading and writing the words. After watching the video, I would like you to try and write 2 words on your own including – with and that. Use one of those words to write a sentence. I would like you to send me a picture of your sentence. Remember your best handwriting and to hold your pencil correctly.

Maths Activity

Representing the numbers 9 and 10.

Today we are going to focus on the numbers 9 and 10. First of all you could recap counting to the number 10. Then, collect 20 objects from around your house. Make sure that the first 10 objects fall into the same category and the second 10 objects fall into another category e.g. different colours, different animals, different sizes. Then think of different ways to make the number 9 e.g. 4 red buttons and 5 green buttons. Do the same with the number 10 and focus on the different ways to represent each number. After you have found different ways of making each number, you can then write the numbers 9 and 10 on a piece of paper.

Before watching the video I would like you to see if you can remember what happens at the beginning of the story, what happens in the middle of the story and what happens at the end.

After watching the video, were your predictions for the beginning, middle and end correct? What did you enjoy about the story?

Other activities:

  • Read a phonics book on oxford owl or you can read your own phonics book if you have one. Remember to keep practicing so you become fluent with reading. Free eBook library | Oxford Owl from Oxford University Press
  • Fine motor exercises – remember this is important to help us develop our strength in our fingers to be super writers. You can practice using your fingers to – complete the dough disco (video below), do some threading with pasta or beads, do some painting with some cotton buds or count some objects out using some tweezers.
  • Technology – use a phone or an ipad to take some pictures. You could take some pictures of your favourite toys or some pictures of the world outside. You could then use one of the pictures to do a drawing.
  • Construction – build a model and think about the shapes you are using to create your model. Can you spot a square, a circle, a triangle and a rectangle?
