Good morning everyone. I hope you have all got back into the swing of our home learning. Don’t worry it’s not for much longer! Please continue to send an email to let me know what you have been up to and also a photo or two if you have them.
We have two zoom sessions a day for children who want to attend. The sessions are at 11am and 1.30pm and I will read a story during each session.
- Share stories with your children daily, they are hugely important in their learning.
- Please sing or say rhymes with your child. If you do not know the tune, don’t worry. Your child might know it, or you can make up a tune or you could always say it rather than sing it. See Day 1 for the words to some of our popular rhymes.
- Please find opportunities for counting daily. This might be when playing with toys, having tea, or walking up the stairs.
Pre-nursery
10 in the Bed – Watch the videos below to see the story and rhyme of 10 in the Bed. Encourage your child to join in with the rhyme. See if your child can make their own version of 10 in the bed with 10 toys and a blanket/towel. Sing through the rhyme allowing your child to remove one toy each time. Count the toys each time one is removed.
Describing – have a small collection of real objects in a box or a bag- ask your child to choose one and then together you can talk about it. Describe it, colour, size, shape etc. Ask questions about it e.g. what do we do with it? Where do we find it? Who likes them? etc. Try to introduce your child to new words.
Nursery
Phonics – Alliteration (words that begin with the same sound). It can be fun to play around with alliteration. Think up sentences for the people in your family e.g. Lucy licking lollipops, Jolly John jumps etc. Emphasise alliteration in songs, stories and rhymes e.g. Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. Play around with familiar songs to emphasise alliteration such as ‘Old MacDonald had some sheep, shoes, shorts, with a sh sh here and a sh sh there’.

Count the toys each time one is removed. Write the numbers 1-10 on pieces of paper and see if you can add them into the rhyme.
Guess what? – Have a set of about 8 pictures (from a magazine, game etc) or 8 objects from around the house. Describe one of the objects using some of the following clues – What category it belongs to (e.g. animal or food), what it does, a description (e.g. colour), something it is like, something it isn’t like or the sound it begins with. See if your child can guess the object. Once you have played the game a few times your child could give the clues for you to guess. You might need to prompt the clues e.g. what colour is it?
