For the rest of this week, we will be focussing on poetry and will be writing poems using our senses. We will be focussing the poems on the theme “outdoors”.
Today, I would like you to go outside. You could go to your garden or yard or you could incorporate this lesson into your exercise for the day and go for a walk.
I want you to think about the questions below. You could also collect objects to bring back to your house to remind you of being outside.
What can you see? What can you hear? What can you feel? What can you smell? What can you taste?
Generate adjectives and similes for all of of the things you experience outside. Use powerful verbs and adverbs to describe what things are doing outside.
I went outside and generated some ideas. Set your work out like I have below by using a heading for each sense.

Reading
Today is our reciprocal reading session and you will be taking on the role of the clarifier. While you are reading the text try to think about what others might find confusing.
Task
- Choose 3 words from the text that you think others might need explaining and clarify each word.
- Why do you think that Emma uses the word boring to describe her Dad?
- Using evidence from the text, explain how the writer makes you think that Emma is not ready to get a puppy.
