Spelling

Rainbow writing –

Today, I would like you to write out your spellings using rainbow colours. Once you have written out your spellings, I want you to apply some of them into multi-clause sentences. It is important we apply them so we understand the meaning of them. If you are unsure on any meanings, find the definitions of them and write them down. Remember a multi-clause sentence has 3 or more clauses split by two or more conjunctions.

For example – During the group discussion, the children discussed obtuse angles however many children were mistaking them for acute angles .

discussion, discomfort, disgusting, distracted, discretely, disturbing, discovery, dissolves, dismount, distress, denominator, decimal, perimeter, analogue, geometric, acute, obtuse, isosceles

Mrs Robinson’s group –

lamb, limb, doubt, comb, climb, science, scenic, scissors, solemn, psalm, autumn, column, knight, knuckle, knife

English

SPAG (15 minutes): Subordinate clauses

Today we are going to focus on using a subordinate clause to begin our sentence with. When you use a subordinate clause followed by a main clause, it must be split using a comma. The subordinate clause is a clause which would not make sense on it’s own and it begins with a subordinating conjunction.

Task 1 – identify the subordinate clause and insert the comma

If you are thirst help yourself to a glass of water.

While the boy eats his lunch he watches his favourite TV programme.

When she is not busy the caring mother goes to see her son in hospital.

Task 2 – Your task now is to create 3 complex sentences of your own using the subordinate clause before the main clause.

Writing (45 minutes): To create an information sheet

Within the first chapter of the story, Stig shows Barney around his ‘home’. Your job today is to create an information sheet about Stig’s home. You are going to become an estate agent (a person who sells homes) and I want you to create an information sheet which would describe Stig’s home. It needs to be formally written because you want people to think his home is good enough to be sold. If you are struggling to remember what his home is like listen to the chapter again. I have created an input of my own so you understand how to complete today’s task.

Maths

Maths Meeting: Recap previous learning (15 minutes)

Maths: Recapping number – subtraction (45 minutes)

Today we are going to look at subtraction and identify the misconceptions when using subtraction. We will be using a variety of problem solving questions so you gain a good understanding of how to tackle questions like these.

Task –

Reading

Reading for pleasure – Today, I want you to read for pleasure. Spend 10/15 minutes reading on your own. When you have read, I want you to write down 5 new things you have learnt from your reading. It would be great if you could read a non-fiction text but if you don’t, don’t worry.

DT/Art

I want you to be creative this afternoon. Thinking back to English, I want you to create a new home that Stig and Barney can stay in. I want you to use recycled materials and create a comfortable living space. You can either use recycled materials to make it or you could draw a house and label it. Use colours or paints if you have them and then explain why you have used them materials and what they are for.

I look forward to seeing your den/home for Stig and Barney.

Well Done

I am proud of your efforts.

Well done,

Mr Farrier.
